Best Dessert To Eat All the Time?
Q:
I need help. I just started the Keto diet yesterday. The food is not the issue, it’s the craving for sweets. What is a good dessert that can be eaten all the time?
A:
Actually, I have to laugh, because in my heart, I’ve been waiting for this question to come up.
And I’m not sure you’re going to like my answer.
But let’s start simply. I’m wondering WHY you want or even NEED to have dessert all the time? Dessert is not really designed to be a every day thing. Lions in the wild don’t eat a meal of raw gazelle and then finish it off with a bowl of ice cream.
But, I get it, you’re not a lion. This isn’t Wild Kingdom.
But the truth here is that most of the time, these needs (or wants) for desserts or treats after meals are merely habits leftover from childhood, or from our departure from dieting. Generally, “desserts” aren’t as nutritious as real foods are, and so they are a luxury. A calorie bonus if you will.
Now, if you are looking to gain weight, then a calorie bonus might be exactly what you’re looking for. However, if you’re trying to lose weight and gain health, then an extra set of marginally healthful calories doesn’t really seem all that worth it, does it?
Now, before you think I’m all tee-totaler, no-desserts-for-you and a big meanie, let me just say that I think there is a place for desserts. And it’s called occasionally. Special Occasions. Etc.
Tuesday is not a holiday. Or a special event. (Unless it is – and then Happy Whatever it is to you.)
I’m NOT saying get rid of all sweets. Or all desserts. Or even that ALL food must be healthy. Because I’m just not a keto-Nazi.
Rather, I’m suggesting that you GAIN your power back. The ability to choose and decide whether a dessert EVERY DAY is right for you. Because I’m thinking that if you’re asking, it’s because right now – you’re a slave. =( Yeah, I just said that. Don’t hate me.
So, here’s a quick video to help you deal with your “I gotta have dessert every night” demons. Let me know how it goes for you.
Short Answer: If you have to have dessert every night, then you’re probably a slave to your habits and patterns of behaviors. And if that’s the case, then IMO it’s time to set you free.
