Should I Water Fast to Get Back On Track?

Q:

I had a bad week of cheating ..should I do “water fasting” for about a week to get back into ketosis??

A:

I’m wondering, is this really about getting back into ketosis? Because if you just get back on track, you’ll be back in ketosis in a matter of days. (Usually, between 2 and 4, the average being 3.)

Or is this about punishing yourself for your week-long off-the-wagon eating?

I mean, why were you off-track in the first place? Has that resolved? Because if it hasn’t, your mind and body may interpret a water fast as an “act of violence” and turn up your cravings and hunger.

Since you’ve been cheating for a week +/-, it’s likely that swinging to the other end of the spectrum is going to set you up for yet another off-wagon trip (aka cheating) or worse bingeing.

I’d say just get back on track as best you can, and do whatever you need to do to resolve whatever else may be going on for you right now.

“Short Answer: I’d say just get back on track as best you can. ”
