What Should I Eat For Breakfast?
Q:
Christy, what is your alternative to eggs & bacon for breakfast. It’s a delicious combo, but I like something different a few times a week. Thanks.
A:
Breakfast is NOT a requirement.
Honestly, most mornings I don’t eat breakfast. However, there’s some really interesting research around breakfast and the dawn effect that’s making me rethink my stance on breakfast.
You can always make a “porridge” of crushed nuts and seeds – but that could be hard on your belly and would pack calorie carb punch. Did you know that in Poland they actually eat salad for breakfast?
If you like mashed/riced cauliflower, you could add a bit of stevia, cinnamon, and butter/ghee – for a sort of “cream of wheat.” Hanover makes a mashed, unflavored cauliflower that would be great for this. Though, I might balance those carbs with a bit of protein powder mixed in.
There are also homemade cereals you can make. I haven’t tried these because I haven’t had cereal in years, and they seem to be a lot of trouble.
You could also make muffins that use protein powder.
If any of these sound interested, let me know and I may be able to either share one of my personal recipes, or point you at some one’s I’ve tried.
“Short Answer: Breakfast is NOT a requirement. Breakfast can be ANY food. Eat what sounds good… or skip it.”
