Clutter + Stress + Overwhelm = Food & Weight Issues
What does clutter and stuff have to do with weight and emotional overeating? A LOT.
Because clutter and disarray cause stress and overwhelm.
Here’s how it works:
You see that stack of mail on the counter-top, the dirty dishes, the pizza box from the weekend, and you think to yourself, “I need to clean the counter-top.” So you spend 2 or 3 minutes sorting through the mail, and you see the bill (the one that’s overdue), so you curse (out loud), head off to go find the checkbook because this is the ONLY bill you can’t pay online. After you’ve written the check, and licked the envelope (adding 5 calories to your daily intake), you put the stamp on it, and take it to the mailbox, silently praying that it gets there before they charge you the late fee.
And when you get back in the house, you notice the pile of shoes in the foyer – so you yell at the kids. The dog’s toys are everywhere – but you can’t yell at her because she’s a dog, and you pause for a moment to wonder whether you should teach your next dog to put her own freaking toys away. Then, back in the kitchen you realize that you’re running late to start dinner, and worse, you forgot to get the meat out of the freezer. So, Chinese takeout it will have to be.
You sigh a bit of relief knowing you don’t really have to cook a healthy meal for yourself and your family – but you also die a little bit inside, because you know that this isn’t really how you want to be living your life. These are not the lessons you want to be teaching your children. And so, feeling like a failure, you pour yourself a glass of wine, in an attempt to drown out the voices in your head that tell you you should be better, and do better.
That alcohol in your system numbs your emotional pain, but it also numbs your physical pain. And so when the food gets there, you eat the food specifically engineered to make you eat more, and crave more. And because you’ve dulled your senses, you struggle to know when you’re satisfied, so you eat more than you would have. And then you feel bad about that too, so that calls for a little more wine.
And so you vege out in front of the TV, to binge watch that series on Netflix you’ve heard so much about, and eventually pass out on the couch.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
See, as your stress builds, it become a negative feedback loop, growing and growing, until you escape… into food, or sex, or wine, etc.
The problem is that once you enter into that food “trance,” it’s tough to get out.
That’s why I’m running the Life Detox Program. It’s a 7 Day challenge to help you make real changes that you can start to see Day 1. Every day there will be live instructions, help, support, and accountability given by me. You’ll be able to ask questions, and get help specific you your problems. The tools I will teach you will help you in all the other aspects of your life. We’ll take it in small, bite-sized pieces. I know you can do this.
