Quick Review of Fat Fast Cookbook by Dana Carpenter and Jimmy Moore

Fat Fast CookbookFat Fast Cookbook by Dana Carpenter and Jimmy Moore

This book is not a true ‘book’ in the most basic sense of the word. Rather, it is a conglomeration of posts you can read online for free with a handful of “recipes” at the end. If you would like examples, let me point you to this post, which is in the book, written by Jimmy Moore.

I was hoping for inventive keto recipes, but alas shirataki noodles with peanut butter and soy sauce isn’t that original. The Keto Coffee recipe is little more than Dave Asprey’s Bullet Proof Coffee. 🙁 No offense to the authors involved, but this seems more like folks trying to capitalize on the general public’s confusion regarding how to do the whole Nutritional Ketosis thing, and how to create palatable meals with very high fat contents. I say this knowing that Dana and Jimmy are very dedicated to the low-carb movement.

The photos in the book are the typical, run of the mill variety created by bloggers who are just starting out. That is to say, they are fairly accurate representations of the finished product, but not all that appetizing.

If you are looking for a way to do keto (aka HFLC) with clean, minimally processed foods, this is not the book for you. Most recipes feature a highly processed food or an unnatural sugar alternative.

Don’t get me wrong, $4.99 for 50 recipes isn’t that bad. I’m not saying I regret it, it’s just not THAT useful where I am now. But I can see how a keto newbie might be interested in it. That also said, someone new to low-carb high-fat way of living shouldn’t really need to be doing super high-fat, or fat fast anyway. Fat fasts should be reserved for long-term stalls, lest you damage your metabolism further.

If nothing else I will say that the topic covering how to make your own coconut butter is useful – I may have to try that out myself. =)
