The Tuesday Mindf#ck

I woke up today with that old feeling you may also be familiar with. That I had let myself down and that I had already failed.

But that really made me hone in on my thoughts and my beliefs. I hadn’t done anything yesterday that I hadn’t intended. No great transgression I needed to atone for. No, in fact, I had done exactly as I had intended, I ate and drank as I intended.

So why the mind-f#ck this morning?

Because in years past, I would be on a “magical” diet right now. I would be in Day 2 of Diet and Deprivation mode. Lost in the wilderness of hunger and cravings, praying that this time would be the last time.

And that’s not where I am today. There is no “start” to a way of life. There is no “end” or “falling off the wagon.” There is only “what I do.”

So this is what I do.

  • I move my body. When I get bored with a certain program or routine, I try something new.
  • I eat only when I am hungry. And never to run away from or avoid feeling.
  • I am mindful of balance in my life and try to ensure that I never stray too far from center.
  • I make time for self-care, and force myself to take timeouts if I need to.

What can you do to make your choices a lifestyle and not just a diet?
