Quickest Ways to Boost Your Metabolism

I hope 2017 is off to an amazing start for you and that you are feeling good about your mind, body, and spirit.

I’m often asked about metabolism and how to speed it up; particularly during the dismal and drab Winter months.  Well, there’s sea of confusing opinions on this subject, but here are my favorite ways to support this endeavor and improve your overall health while you are at it!

Sure, I might sound like a broken record with some of these things, but if we have to get solid on the basics. It’s like building a house, if you don’t have a strong foundation, you are not going to have a very sturdy home.  So here goes…

  • Getting enough sleep.  Sleep is when our bodies rejuvenate and replenish, so getting healthy amounts of sleep on a regular basis will help to keep a healthy metabolism.
  • Staying hydrated.  Drinking enough water affects your metabolism, so drink up!  I’m not going to tell you to drink 100 oz or half your body weight. Drink when you’re thirsty. And drink when you’re hungry. Proper hydration lends far more benefits to your health than a healthy metabolism, so this one is very important.  Staying hydrated also aids in digestion, a topic that I’ve recently blogged about, that you can check out here: 3 Tips for Better Digestion https://www.christyrhall.com/3-tips-better-digestion/
  • Don’t skip breakfast. This one is hard, I know, because a large percentage of the population skips breakfast.  Mornings can be rushed and busy, but starting your day with a healthy protein packed breakfast is very helpful for getting your metabolic engine going. • And of course, exercise!  The more you move, the more you burn and keep the systems of your body (including your metabolism) in check!

And maybe two less obvious ones that might surprise you…

  • Eating enough.  There’s a common misconception that eating less helps you lose weight, which is not entirely accurate.  Starving yourself only serves to confuse your body.  Eating enough calories spread throughout your day will keep your metabolism constant.  Overeating is never a good idea, but don’t be afraid to eat healthy, whole foods!
  • Get spicy.  Adding some hot peppers or a shake of cayenne into your meals may give a pop to your metabolism, so if you enjoy a little spice in your meals, remember this trick.
  • Use tapping and/or hypnosis. I, personally, have found these tools to be a wonderful adjunct to functional and physical changes. The subconscious is the master of your metabolism. There are reasons why it’s keeping it at the level it is. If your metabolism is proving to be stubborn, perhaps some hypnosis and tapping can help you get to the root cause of why it’s stuck! =)

Pick out a tip or two to start implementing this week if you’ve been frustrated with your goals to lose weight taking longer than you’d hoped.  Send me a reply and let me know what you plan on trying, I’d love to cheer you on!

Hope you’ve found these tips useful!

Remember, I’m always here if you need some guidance…

What's Your Burn Rate?

You can easily and quickly learn your metabolic rate with a BodyGem Indirect Calorimeter measurement.

Regardless of what you eat, it can be difficult to lose weight when you don't know what you burn.  With your measurement, you will know how much you can eat everyday to maintain or lose weight.

This is the same type of device that the medical adviser used on The Biggest Loser.
